Today marked the official opening of schools around the country! It was the first time I got a call for work that early during the school year and I have to say I was very excited!
I will be working in a nearby village and I will be in charge of the afternoon class. Kids will finish their morning classes at 1:15 and later I will be helping some of them with homework for another 3 hours, until 4.
The truth is I am a little nervous since it is the first time I will be in charge of such a class. All these past years I worked as part of a program that aimed to help foreign students get better in language so that they would be able to follow the rest of their class and have a bigger chance at succeeding at school. This time the challenge is different, I can't say I don't want to do it. It was about time some things changed. Being involved in young children's education means going through various posts and this is one of them.
I can't wait for our first meeting in the classroom. Feelings are mixed right now, I am anxious to meet my new students, nervous to make sure I will manage the class well (the problem here is that I will have students of all classes in my classroom and I will be the one to help them with homework, so working with different levels can be challenging) and relieved that this time I won't have that looong 140 kilometers commute on a daily basis. I will be able to wake up a little later, I need to be at school by 11:30, I won't have tons of material to prepare, since the students will already have their homework assigned by their class teacher and I will have some free time to be with Little Man.
Wish me luck!
