One of the news making the rounds in my nation is that education is a scam. I wonder how the people, especially the youth, arrived at this thought. We have been told severally that education is the basis for which our future is guaranteed and safe. On this pedal, we have lived our lives. In our time, we have ensured that we paid full attention to our academics while believing in what the future holds for us. And I can sincerely say that it has not been as bad as it is painted out there.
One of the guys who have accepted the argument that education is a scam and has resulted in living a street life and smoking marijuana which is contraband in our country was arrested by the community police.
In the same police station where he was arrested, another guy was at the counter for a murder case. The accused murderer had written a statement in a full scalp sheet explaining how the incident happened. He accepted to have committed the crime but that he was sorry to have acted under the influence of anger in the written statement.
The guy in the marijuana case could not write, yet he was one of those promoting the wild saying that Education is a scam. He was asked to write a statement. Since he could not, he just copied the statement written by the accused murderer.
He submitted the statement to the investigating police officer who read through it and laughed loudly. Before long, his relatives came and pleaded and he was released on bail. This is the usual practice in most parts of Africa. The indigenous people have a way of lobbying the police and having what they want. So, he was released.
A few weeks later, the young man was walking on the street and found someone selling rat killers. Perhaps, their house has been taken over by mice.
How do I administer rat poison? The young man asked.
The marketer simply replied to him with the hope to sell one or two packs to this customer.
There are three steps to remove all the rats in your house.
First, catch the rat and feed it a teaspoon full three times a day.
This young fellow who has been clamoring that education is a scam continued to be busy listening and following what the rat poison marketer was saying.
What if the rat refused to die? The young man asked.
The marketer looked at him, in his mind, he said to himself:
This guy is a daunce.
But he replied him, saying:
Then, you go to the second step which is to smash its head on the ground.
After hearing this, he was not convinced that the rat poison would be effective. He asked the marketer what the final step could be.
Set it on fire, let it burn to ashes.
On hearing this, it seemed like the best option in the steps and went ahead to buy the rat poison for as much as $250 for a rat poison that cannot kill a single rat.
Dear friends, education is not a scam. It is the antidote for which we can be set free from enslavement and move our lives to a new height. Also, it equips us with all needed information for development in our society and propagates trending laws and rights for a better life.
