The bare minimum approach and not splurging with friends and others when one knows it's detrimental to them accomplishing their goals is admirable.
It takes willpower and an attitude of not succumbing to temptation to say "NO", especially to family and friends. I know she will succeed. The payoff will be worth the sacrifice.
