Transactions declined: my first police encounter.

in #hive-15385010 months ago

I was in the shop on a very good day, doing one transaction or another. I have been working with my point of sale machine, and everything is fine. Not until it was time for me to close and go home, there was this one customer that came out of nowhere and said, "I want to withdraw some cash," and I told her no problem.
She inserted her ATM card into the machine, and I did the transactions for her, after which she put in her pin. She wants to collect 4 thousand naira, which is $5. Unfortunately, I inserted the card, and it was denied. But she was debited, and I wasn't credited.

I told her politely that, ma'am, your card was declined, and I even printed the slip out for her. her for more confirmation, but she happened to be so frustrated that night, I guess, and she talked to me in anger that I must give her the money even though I wasn't credited. I tried explaining to her that they would reverse the money for her in the next 24 hours. But everything I was telling this woman was not even entering her ear. Fortunately for me, my friend, who is also a lady, was with me, and she helped me talk to her. But it's all negative; she insisted on collecting her money.

At this point, she called her husband to come over, telling him I wanted to scam her. Her husband came, and I explained everything to him, but the husband also insisted I needed to pay her. At this point, I told them to collect half of the money, and once we resolved the issues, we would know how to go with it, but everything I was saying was negative to them.

To cut a long story short, they started raising their voices, and then my friend that was there with me was beaten because she was supporting them.
This was the first time I would have an encounter with the police officer. I went straight to the police and lodged a complaint. I did that because there were so many things that got spoiled in my shop. The police officers told me before they could leave their office that I needed to pay some amount of money. I was told 5 thousand in Nigerian money, which was $7. I did, and they saw everything that happens behind the scenes. The police officer told me to call a lawyer; I also did that, but then I just kept spending money.

I got so frustrated at the case because all I needed was my money for what got damaged in my shop, but I just kept spending more and more. The officer was trying to loot me at some point.
The point is that going to the police station was a good one, and of course they did what they could, as I recovered some money from the goods they spoiled. But honestly, having an encounter with an officer is not something that is good; you will just keep spending money, and if you don't have money, they won't do what they need to do. I just don't want to have anything to do with them again; it's so frustrating.

Oh my goodness. What a situation. I am sorry that your friend was beaten - they are bullies. It is also sad that your shop was damaged and on top of that you needed to pay the police. Sorry to hear and I hope you were able to also settle the matter of the credit.

It's not a small thing as the case lasted for weeks but I just do not like the fact of spending more money on a case that doesn't Worth it. But I'm happy it's ended.

Thanks Momo for stopping by

Well, you have done with alerting the police, and as you pointed out, Nigeria police look for means and ways to keep collecting and collecting money from you at any opportunity.

Indeed it's frustrating dealing with Nigerian police. You will end up spending more money sometimes trying to sort issues

The officer was trying to loot me at some point.

Looter, I saw that "word"😂

To file a case you need money ?? The Nigerian police is really something else and have lost the respect they deserve.
