Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Holy Protection rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

The ruleset this time is Little League, Holy Protection, and Lost Magic. This means that all monsters gain the Divine Shield ability, no magic monsters can be used and cards must have a mana cost of 4 or less. There is also 47 mana available and I am left with the choice of all splinter except for dragon.
The summoner I chose to use this time is Kelya Frendul. The summoner effects give +1 armor and speed. I can also use cards to the halfway to max.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Kelya Frendul | 4 | Summoner | +1 speed and armor |
Chaos Rear Guard | 4 | 1st | Shield |
Tide Biter | 3 | 2nd | Reach |
Merdhampir | 4 | 3rd | Life Leech |
Merdaali Guardian | 3 | 4th | Tank Heal |
Igor Darkspear | 2 | 5th | |
Clockwork Aide | 4 | 6th | Swiftness |
Total Mana: | 24 |
I plan to use Chaos Rear Guard as my tank for the shield ability. Then I have Tide Biter with reach. Merdhampir is a backup tank because life leech can increase its health. Following that is Merdaali Guardian with tank heal to keep my frontline alive. Then I have a ranged damage dealer and in my last spot is a tank to deal with sneak monsters.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I don't think I have the advantage at all. My opponent's fast monster and the cripple make it quite dangerous for me. I don't see my choice of using Chaos Rear Guard that great because it will slowly reduce its max health so tank heal is not as effective.
Round 2
I lost my tank in the first round and I haven't done much damage to my opponent. It's not looking that great for me because there is a fast monster with flying up front.
Round 3
At this point, I don't have much left and my opponent has a lot of tanks before his ranged monsters will go up front. So this match is my loss unless I can dodge most of the attacks done.
I lost this match a few rounds later as I expected. It wasn't very likely given the speed of my opponent's monster.
Conclusion
The battle did not go as I expected. My opponent's summoner gave him cripple and that reduced the chances of my tank surviving. My opponent just had the superior lineup and the ranged damage was too much for me to overcome. I did come with a decent lineup but I was expecting my opponents to have a few monsters with 1 attack but it didn't happen this time around.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
